A MAN has been charged after a garda was struck by a car in Co Kildare early on Sunday morning.

The incident occurred shortly after 1.30am at Beggar’s Bush, Naas, when a car failed to stop for gardaí on duty at a checkpoint during the Oxegen music festival.

Gardaí later intercepted the car near Castledermot, Co Kildare, and arrested three males in their late teens and early 20s. They were taken to Naas Garda station, where two of them were released.

Shane Hanbury (20) of Cloonmore Park in Tallaght appeared at Naas District Court yesterday charged with dangerous driving, and was remanded in custody to appear again on July 14th.

The garda was taken to Naas hospital, where he was treated for head injuries and released.

Two people were killed in crashes over the weekend. Yesterday, a man aged 43 died at the scene when his car hit a ditch at Leenane, Co Galway at 1.15am. On Saturday, a woman aged 27 was killed in Co Tipperary after her car crashed on the Fethard to Cashel road in a single-vehicle incident.
