A 79-year-old man, who was knocked down while crossing the road from his local pub to his home, has been awarded £8,000 damages in Dublin Circuit Civil Court.

Acting Circuit Court President Judge Diarmuid Sheridan held that Mr Thomas Ogilby, James's Street Flats, Dublin, had crossed to the middle of the road and that an oncoming motorist should have stopped in the circumstances.

He held Mr Ogilby a third responsible for the accident and reduced an overall award of £12,000 to £8,000.
