A MAN who suffered "horrific" injuries when he fell on to rail tracks and the wheels of a train went over his legs has been awarded £157,487 damages and costs in the High Court.

Mr Martin O'Connell (32), Woodview Park, Limerick, sued Iarnrod Eireann following the accident at Colbert station, Limerick, on February 2nd, 1992. He had to have his legs amputated.

Mr Justice Moriarty assessed total damages and costs at £286,340 but apportioned liability at 55 per cent on the company's part and 45 per cent on Mr O'Connell's part, reducing the award to £157,487.
