Man arrested over Sheriff Street murder

A 20-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a fatal shooting in Dublin’s north inner city last weekend.

A 20-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a fatal shooting in Dublin’s north inner city last weekend.

Gavin McCarthy (21) was shot dead on Sheriff Street on Sunday evening.

The gunman cycled up to Mr McCarthy, of Oriel Street, Dublin 1, outside a fast food outlet and fired a number of shots at him with a handgun. Mr McCarthy was hit twice, in the face and leg.

The man was arrested in the north inner city this morning.

He is being held at Store Street Garda station under Section 30 Offences Against the State Act. He can be questioned for up to 72 hours.
