A man has been arrested following the discovery of the body of a 46-year-old woman in a house in Co Mayo.
The woman's body was discovered at about 1.40am this morning at a house at Derrycrieve, Islandeady, Castlebar.
The man, who is in his early 20s, was arrested at 8am at Corha, Islandeady, Castlebar.
He is being held at Castlebar Garda station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act. He can be detained for 24 hours.
The scene where the body was found was examined by a Garda technical team and the State Pathologist’s travelled to Mayo General Hospital to conduct a post mortem examination.
Gardaí were not willing to divulge any details of the injuries sustained by the victim.
