Man arrested over cannabis haul

A man in his 30s has been arrested following the discovery of nearly 20kgs worth of cannabis herb in Co Carlow today.

A man in his 30s has been arrested following the discovery of nearly 20kgs worth of cannabis herb in Co Carlow today.

The man was arrested after gardaí stopped a car on the M9 at Johnstown, near Bennekerry at lunchtime today.

The drugs, with an estimated street value of €240,000, were found during a search of the car.

The man is currently being held at Carlow Garda station under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice Act.

The operation was carried out as part of an on going investigation into the sale and supply of illegal drugs in the South-East.
