A man in his 20s has been arrested in Longford following a serious assault in the town last night.
The incident took place at around 2.15am in a house on St Michael's Road.
A man in his 30s was taken to Mullingar General Hospital suffering from head injuries; these are not thought to be life threatening.
A knife and a pitchfork were recovered.
