An 18-year-old man has been arrested in Cork following the death of a pedestrian who was struck by a car in the county this morning.

A 21-year-old male pedestrian was fatally injured when he was struck by the car at Pewterhole Cross, Kinsale, Co Cork at around 3am.

Gardaí said the car failed to stop at the scene but a man was subsequently arrested and detained at Togher Garda Station in a follow-up operation.

He has since been released without charge and a file will be prepared for the Director of Public Prosecution.
