A husband and wife in their 40s have died following a house fire in Ballymahone, Co Longford early this morning.
Gardaí named the victims as Mr Vincent Farrell (54) and his wife Mrs Patrica Farrell (49) . The alarm was raised shortly before six a.m. after a fire broke out at the house on the main road between Mullingar and Ballymahone.
The victims three children, including their 19-year-old daughter who raised the alarm, escaped from the house. Fire units from Ballymahone and Athlone attended the scene.
The bodies were taken to Mullingar General Hospital where they were pronounced dead on arrival.
Gardaí are investigating the cause of the fire and the scene has been sealed off pending a technical
examination.
