Man (88) dies in Co Kerry fire

An 88-year-old man has died in a house fire in Co Kerry.

An 88-year-old man has died in a house fire in Co Kerry.

Gardaí at Killarney are investigating the blaze, which occurred overnight at Coolownig, Lauragh.

The man, a Dutch national who had been living in the area for some time, was one of three occupants in the house at the time.

The other occupants, who had been asleep in the house, discovered the fire shortly after 3am.

The man's body has been taken to to Kerry General Hospital where a postmortem will be carried out later today.

The scene of the fire is being preserved and The divisional scenes of crime unit is in attendance, a Garda statement said.  A Garda spokesman confirmed, however, that the fire is not being treated as suspicious.
