A man has died in a car crash in Co Limerick.

A man has died in a car crash in Co Limerick.

The collision happened on the Galbally to Tipperary road at 4.35an this morning when the car left the road and struck a tree about one mile from Galbally village.

There were no other vehicles involved.

A 56-year-old man, who was a passenger in the car, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver, a 29-year-old man, was taken to South Tipperary General Hospital where he is being treated for minor injuries.

"The road at the crash site remains closed pending a technical examination by Garda forensic crash scene investigators," a Garda statement said.

Separately, the R165 Cavan to Bailieborough Rd is closed at the Moylett/Drumcarrow junction until later today after a serious crash.
