Man (52) rescued from Co Derry fire

A 52-year-old man has been rescued from a burning flat in Limavady, Co Derry today.

A 52-year-old man has been rescued from a burning flat in Limavady, Co Derry today.

Two police officers battled through thick smoke at the Benevenagh Drive property to reach the man, who was in bed.

He has been treated in hospital for the effects of smoke inhalation.

The alarm was raised at around 6am with residents of neighbouring flats having to be evacuated while fire crews dealt with the blaze.

Police said the fire was not being treated as suspicious at this stage.
