A MAN who received community service after setting fire to his former school, has been put on probation for a year following a successful appeal by the State.

Christopher Clancy (20), of Cherrywood Grove, Clondalkin, Dublin received 240 hours’ community service in lieu of a two-year prison service having pleaded guilty to arson at Coláiste Chillian on the Old Nangor Road on May 10th, 2009.

Mr Justice Liam McKechnie yesterday said the appeal court determined the appropriate sentence should be one of three years suspended for a period of 12 months.
