A major search and rescue operation was launched yesterday after two men got into difficulty while kite- surfing in separate incidents in Co Clare, writes The alarm was raised at about 3.30pm when an onlooker called the emergency services to report that two people appeared to be in trouble in Liscannor Bay in the west of the county.

The Coast Guard station at Valentia Island in Co Kerry launched and co-ordinated a rescue operation.

In both cases the kite- surfers made it ashore and neither needed to be brought to hospital.
