The North's Department of the Environment has been blamed for a major fish kill on the River Torrent, a tributary of the Blackwater in the Coalisland area of Co Tyrone, at the weekend.

Hundreds of trout fry, adult fish and eels have died on a five mile stretch of the river, which had been about to benefit from an extensive restocking and improvement project funded by an EU grant.
