BARCELONA - Former Filipina maid Sara Balabagan, who was jailed in the United Arab Emirates after killing an employer she claimed had raped her, admitted yesterday that she had not been raped but had killed "in self-defence" as the man tried to abuse her.

Ms Balabagan, now 17, who served two years in jail in the UAE before being freed amid ban international uproar over her treatment, told a press conference that the first doctor who examined her after the killing advised her to say she had been systematically raped by her employer "in order to have a chance to survive".
