The Mahon (Planning) Tribunal has written to all media organisations reminding them of restrictions on reporting confidential aspects of its private inquiries.

In a short letter yesterday afternoon, the tribunal solicitor, Marcelle Gribbin, said that she had been directed by the members of the tribunal to draw attention to an injunction granted by the Supreme Court on October 7th, 2005.

The interlocutory injunction was granted in an appeal taken by the tribunal against an earlier High Court ruling in favour of the Sunday Business Post.

"Please note that this injunction continues to apply and will do so until after the hearing of the appeal of the Supreme Court in the proceedings, or further order," Ms Gribbin stated.

The Supreme Court injunction stated that the Sunday Business Post, and all persons having knowledge of the court's order, were restrained from publishing or using information, or reproducing documents or their content, where the tribunal had directed that such information or documentation should remain confidential until disclosed at public hearing.
