An Israeli district court has ruled against the petition by Irish Nobel laureate Mairead Maguire to reject Israel’s 10-year ban on her entry to the country.

Ms Maguire appeared before the Petah Tikva district court this morning to appeal the ban imposed after she took part in a Gaza-found flotilla.

According to her legal team she will now be deported within 48 hours during which time Ms Maguire may file another appeal with the Israeli high court.

Ms Maguire was arrested upon arrival in Ben Gurion airport on Tuesday, and was informed she could not enter Israel as a result of her participation as a passenger on the MV Rachel Corrie in the Gaza Freedom Flotilla in June.

She travelled to Israel to attend a conference of Nobel prize winners convening today.

Ms Maguire refused deportation as her legal representatives had submitted a petition to the courts contesting the deportation.
