WBU welterweight champion Eamonn Magee has admitted his career has come to an untimely end due to the brutal beating he suffered on the streets on Belfast earlier this week.

He was left with a broken leg and suspected punctured lung when he was dragged from a car by a gang who hammered him with pickaxe handles on Sunday night.

"I can guarantee you that my career is over," the 32-year-old conceded today.

"Two specialists have told me so, It is difficult to cope with," he told BBC Northern Ireland. "I have not got over it. I feel disgusted about what has happened to me."

The former Commonwealth light-welterweight champion and world junior silver medallist, nicknamed "The Terminator", suffered a broken tibia and fibula and extensive bruising in the attack.
