Marks & Spencer boss Mr Stuart Rose has been given the backing of the City watchdog, following an inquiry into his dealings in the retailer's shares.

The British Financial Services Authority (FSA) said there were no "ongoing inquiries" in respect of Mr Rose following an investigation by its enforcement division.

The M&S chief executive had denied any wrongdoing in a deal to buy shares shortly before retail tycoon Mr Philip Green launched his bid for the group.
