The jury in the inquest into the deaths of two post office raiders shot by an armed garda in north Co Dublin will resume deliberations today.

Colm Griffin (33), of Canon Lillis Avenue, and Eric Hopkins (24), of Lower Rutland Street, both in Dublin were shot dead in May 2005 by gardai during an operation to thwart a €50,000 robbery at Lusk post office.

Griffin was carrying a semi-automatic handgun while Hopkins was unarmed.

One of Hopkins's relatives complained to the Garda Ombudsman that gardaí had used inappropriate lethal force to foil the robbery.

Garda Ombudsman Commissioner Conor Brady had sought to have the inquest adjourned pending its investigation into the killings.

Dublin City Coroner Dr Brian Farrell refused the request.

The jury will resume deliberations this afternoon.
