THE DRIVER of a Luas tram has been charged in connection with a collision with a bus on O’Connell Street in Dublin last year.

More than 20 people were injured, three of them seriously, in the incident on September 16th.

Oriyomi Emmanuel (37) of Jamestown Park, Ratoath, Co Meath, appeared before the Dublin District Court on Thursday and was remanded on bail to appear again on July 28th.

Mr Emmanuel was charged under the Road Traffic Act, with dangerous driving, causing injury to Suzanne Cribbon.

He was also charged with driving his Luas tram in a dangerous manner that posed an unreasonable risk of harm.

The crash, between the Luas Red Line tram and a number 16 bus, happened at the busy junction between O’Connell Street and Abbey Street.

The Garda, Dublin Bus and Veolia Transport – which operates the Luas system – all launched separate investigations into the incident.
