THE LABOUR Relations Commission (LRC) has intervened in the row between the Health Service Executive (HSE) and trade union Impact over plans to centralise the processing of applications for medical cards.

The HSE yesterday told Impact that it intended to begin the implementation of the move from next Monday. This would have involved five staff in Rathdown Road in Dublin redeploying to Finglas.

Impact, which has opposed the plan, has signalled that any move by the HSE to discipline staff who refuse to redeploy would trigger strike action.

The LRC has invited both sides to attend talks on Friday.
