Loyalists are believed to have carried out a gun attack on the home of a Catholic family in Ardoyne in north Belfast last night, writes Suzanne Breen. Several shots were fired at the house in Strathroy Park around 7 p.m., shattering the downstairs window. No one was injured in the attack.

A Sinn Fein councillor, Mr Bobby Lavery, said the family who owned the house were on holiday and a nephew had been calling in to keep an eye on it. He was inside at the time of the attack but was not hurt.

Mr Lavery said the young man ran out the back of the house when he heard the shots and climbed over a wall. Mr Lavery blamed Loyalists for the shooting. He described the feeling in Ardoyne as tense and said that local people were very angry.
