The Government has serious questions to answer about "missing Euro millions" for the development of Shannon Airport, according to Fianna Fail's spokesman on tourism, Mr Tony Killeen.

A heavy burden had been placed on Aer Rianta to finance the development from its own resources, he said.

The Minister for Transport, Energy and Communications, Mr Lowry, announced last week that £97 million was to be spent on Dublin Airport and £23.5 million on Shannon.

Mr Eilleen said she believed the investment in Dublin could be justified on grounds of size, but there might be an element of cross subsidisation to justify the Shannon investment.

EU funding would have been preferable.
