The Garda Ombudsman Commission is investigating an incident in Co Louth after members of the gardaí fired a number of shots at a vehicle.

The shooting happened at 3pm yesterday when members of the Special Detective Unit and local gardaí were taking part in a planned operation at a yard in Hackballscross near the Border.

During the operation a man fled the scene in an articulated lorry, driving in the direction of gardaí, who responded by firing a number of times at the vehicle.

The man made his way into Northern Ireland where he was detained by the PSNI.

No one was injured during the incident.
