A lottery player woke up €15 million richer this morning after winning the top prize in the Euromillions.

Lotto fever is expected to grip the south east as ticket holders try to find the identity of Ireland’s newest multi-millionaire.

The winning nine euro quick pick ticket was bought in The Abbey Stores, Carrickbeg, Carrick-on-Suir, Co Tipperary, yesterday afternoon.

Shop owner Gerry Fahey said the good news spread quickly through the town after he received the phone call from the lottery office late last night.

The win comes less than a week after a 16-person syndicate claimed almost €19 million - Ireland’s largest jackpot in the National Lottery's 20-year history.

The 15 men who work at a concrete and quarry plant in Bennekerry, Co Carlow, and former employee Audrey Kearns travelled to the National Lottery headquarters in Dublin on Tuesday to collect their prize.

Limerick woman Dolores McNamara remains the country’s biggest lottery winner after scooping €115 million in the Euromillions in 2005.
