A Co Dublin lorry-driver, convicted of "horrendous" illtreatment to eight great Danes, has been banned from owning dogs for 30 years. Four of the dogs belonging to David Traynor, of Newtown Upper, Rathcoole, had to be put down and another died later, Dublin District Court has been told.

Judge Desmond Windle said it was a disgraceful case, and had adjourned sentence until yesterday after ordering the defendant to pay £1,800 costs to the DSPCA.
