A Co Fermanagh lorry-driver has been charged with dangerous driving following a crash in which 19 students were injured when their bus was hit as they were returning from a school tour on Tuesday night.

Mr John Barron, Tuna Cottage, Derrygonelly, appeared before Kilbeggan District Court yesterday following the collision at Cloonfree, Strokestown, Co Roscommon. Sgt Gabriel Duffy said it was possible that the driver may face further charges, including leaving the scene and having a dangerous load.

Judge John Nealon remanded Mr Barron in custody with consent to bail on his own surety of £31,000 and an independent surety of £34,000. He is to appear at Mullingar District Court tomorrow.
