Police have discovered a cache of loaded weapons in east Belfast believed to be connected to loyalist paramilitary feuding.

The guns were found by officers at the rear of a house on Longstone Drive in the Ballybeen estate. Police have described the find as "significant", but no arrests have been made.

It emerged yesterday that more than 100 police officers and soldiers have been assigned to the feud violence in Belfast.

They were drafted in to quell heightening tensions on the streets following the UVF murder of senior LVF man Brian Stewart (34) who was gunned down in the east of the city last week.

Since then several bomb attacks and shooting incidents have been linked to the escalating dispute between the bitterly opposed organisations.
