Cannabis worth almost €92,000 was found in a hedge in Co Meath by a litter warden, Trim Circuit Court heard yesterday.

The warden had been alerted by a member of the public who was concerned about the drivers of two cars acting suspiciously near his home at Millfarm, Dunboyne, on August 14th, 2008.

The drugs were found in two black refuse sacks in a hedgerow. While gardaí were investigating the discovery, the drivers of the cars returned to the scene and were arrested.

One of the two, Anthony Foley, a 25-year-old father of two, with an address at Balcurris Road, Ballymun, Dublin, pleaded guilty to possession of drugs for the purpose of sale or supply.

A defence barrister said Foley had been addicted to cocaine at the time but was now drug-free and helping addicts to rehabilitate themselves.

Judge Michael O’Shea imposed a sentence of five years but suspended the final 18 months.
