Lithuanian President Valdas Adamkus has nominated Zigmantas Balcytis of the Social Democratic Party to be the country's next prime minister.
Mr Balcytis is currently caretaker premier.
He was finance minister in the last minority centre-left coalition led by his party, which fell suddenly last month.
"According to the constitution I nominate Zigmantas Balcytis as the candidate to the post of prime minister," Mr Adamkus told a news conference.
