RADIO listeners are increasingly tuning in to local independent stations rather than RTE, according to the latest listenership figures.

The Market, Research Bureau of Ireland (MRBI) survey shows that 53 per cent of listeners listened to independent radio stations each weekday - a rise of three percentage points on last year. This compares with RTE Radio 1 listenership, which dropped by two percentage points to 36 per cent. 2FM's listenership rose by one percentage point to 29 per cent.

The survey covers from October, 1995, to March, 1996.
