A murder inquiry is under way in Limerick following the discovery of a man's body on waste ground yesterday morning.

The body of father-of-one Jeffrey Hannan (19), of O'Malley Park, South Hill, was found on a pathway close to his home by a man out walking.

A postmortem is understood to have revealed he died of severe head injuries inflicted with a heavy blunt instrument.

Gardaí said they do not believe the killing was linked to a feud in the city, and that Mr Hannan did not have any involvement in crime.
