Gardai in Limerick have seized a handgun and a small amount of ammunition in the Aspen Gardens area of the city, it emerged tonight.
Shortly before 1pm today, two detective gardaí from Limerick's Henry Street Garda Station challenged a man who was acting suspiciously.
The man fled the scene and the detectives gave chase on foot, catching him a short distance away.
The man was arrested and a loaded handgun and a small amount of ammunition were recovered.
The man is being held at Henry Street Garda Station under Section 30 of The Offences Against The State Act.
