Gardai in Limerick have made an application before a special sitting of the District Court to extend the periods of detention for two men and a woman being questioned in connection with two murders in the city last weekend.

A third man was released without charge and a file is to be prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.

Des Kelly (24) and Breda Waters (28) were found dead at a house in the O'Malley Park area of the city last weekend.

Postmortem results confirmed that both victims were shot once in the head with a shot gun.

Mr Kelly, a father of three, and Ms Waters, a mother of three, were buried in Limerick on Thursday.
