Gardaí in Limerick are investigating an incident at a city hotel in which a barman was allegedly assaulted by a smoker.

Gardaí in Limerick are investigating an incident at a city hotel in which a barman was allegedly assaulted by a smoker.

The victim, who works at the Southcourt Hotel in Raheen, was assaulted by a man drinking in Boru's bar in the hotel last night.

The customer is reported to have hit the barman after he was asked to put out his cigarette.

A spokeswoman for the hotel said was a "minor assault and the staff member was not seriously injured".
