Lifeboats saved 149 in year

VOLUNTEER crews of the Royal National Life-Boat Institution in Ireland saved 149 people from death this year, according to provisional figures. A further 265 people were brought ashore from "potentially dangerous situations. The busiest Irish stations were the Aran Islands, with 57 launches, Portrush with 39, followed by Valentia and Dun Laoghaire with 27 each. "However, as in 1996, Baltimore saved the most people from certain death, with 31 lives saved," the RNLI Ireland said.
