The number of new cars licensed in March was up 4.7 per cent at 25,991 compared with the same month the previous year.
According to data released by the Central Statistics Office, new car sales for the first three months of the year were up 8 per cent at 81,808 compared with the same period last year.
Licensing of second-hand cars grew by 10.7 per cent in March.
