Beirut - Lebanon yesterday granted political asylum to Japanese Red Army guerilla Kozo Okamoto and deported four of his comrades to Jordan.

The government said it made an exception to Okamoto because he participated in resistance operations against Israel and was subsequently tortured in Israeli jails.

Okamoto took part in a 1972 attack on Israel's Lod airport in which 24 people were killed.
