The rites and rigmaroles of Catholicism allow naturally for comic entertainment, and this is one way to do it. Late Nite Catholicism is an American one-woman show which ran off-Broadway for three years and has mushroomed into a network of 12 US productions.
It's a simple structure - Sister takes a class of adult Catholics and explains the basics of the faith in a children's classroom. Sister (Maripat Donovan, an Irish-American Catholic who co-wrote the script with Vicki Quade), looks stern in pre-Vatican II costume, but she twinkles more than she admonishes, and she humorously does plenty of that.
Presenting a comical and affectionate Catholicism-in-10-easy-steps, Sister deals with a variety of subjects, (an almost Father Trendy-like "we have immortal souls and are not afraid of vacuum cleaners").
Donovan really scores in her skill and humour in handling the audience.
