THE Vintners' Federation of Ireland, which represents 6,000 publicans outside Dublin, has opposed Labour Party proposals to issue more public house licences in Dublin.

The group's president, Mr Paul O'Grady, said that while they agreed in principle with the need to supply more licences in the city, there were already "far too many licences available in the country". He believed that any new licence "should be supplied by purchasing licences outside Dublin".
