Kuwait's parliament passed a historic law today granting women the right to vote and run in elections for the first time in the Gulf Arab state.

In a session attended by journalists, a majority of parliament members approved a government proposal to grant full suffrage to women, which had met fierce resistance from Islamic traditionalists.
