A woman was subjected to a terrifying ordeal in Limerick after a man hijacked her car at knifepoint and forced her to drive to an ATM to withdraw cash.

The ordeal began at Colbert train station at about 9.30pm on Wednesday when a man with a knife forced the woman into her car.

The victim, who is in her late 20s, was told to drive to an ATM at Roxboro shopping centre and forced to withdraw several hundred euro.

The man left the car after forcing the woman to drive some distance.

A suspect was arrested before lunchtime yesterday. The 21-year-old was being questioned at Roxboro Garda station last night.
