Seoul - The South Korean President, Mr Kim Young-sam, yesterday ruled out an immediate amnesty for his two jailed predecessors and analysts said confusion over the issue reflected a crisis in the ruling camp.

Mr Kim was responding to a suggestion by Mr Lee Hoichang, the ruling New Korea Party candidate for presidential elections in December, that he grant clemency to Chun Doo Hwan and Roh Tae-woo within two weeks. Both were jailed for mutiny, treason and corruption.
