Fine Gael Leader Enda Kenny is to meet with German Chancellor Angela Merkel in Berlin ahead of tomorrow night's televised leaders' debate.

Mr Kenny said he was travelling to Germany brief Ms Merkel on Ireland’s position and to gain "some insight" into her perspective on the Irish situation.

In a statement issued this afternoon, the Fine Gael leader said he will also signal his party's intent to seek changes to the cost of the EU/IMF bailout deal if it is elected.

Mr Kenny said he would also emphasise to Chancellor Merkel that his party is "not prepared to countenance any changes" to Ireland’s 12.5 per cent corporate tax rate, something he said would be "devastating for Ireland’s economic prospects".

Mr Kenny is due in Dublin tomorrow evening to participate in a five-way televised debate with four of the other party leaders.
