At least four Indian soldiers have been killed and at least four wounded when their truck ran over a landmine in Kashmir.

An Indian army spokesman said the explosion happened in Indian-controlled Kashmir, an estimated 65 kilometres south of Srinagar.

Some of the soldiers injured in the explosion near Mattan are reported to be in a serious condition.

The losses are the worst since India held its first talks with Kashmiri separatist leaders last month.
