FREETOWN - Jubilant supporters of the two parties that emerged ahead in Sierra Leone's first democratic polls in almost three decades took to the streets of the capital as soon as a nationwide curfew was lifted yesterday morning.

Sierra Leone's People's Party (SLPP) candidate, Mr Ahmad Tejan Kabbah (63), was announced as the winner of the presidential poll with 35.8 per cent of the vote. A second round of voting will be held in two weeks.
