A jury of nine women and three men has been selected to hear the trial of a psychiatrist from Kilkenny charged with murdering her teenage daughter.

Lynn Gibbs (46), Killure, Gowran, Co Kilkenny, is charged with murdering her daughter, Ciara (16), between 11pm on November 25th, 2006, and 10am the next day.

Ms Gibbs pleaded not guilty to the charge when she appeared before Mr Justice Paul Carney in the Central Criminal Court at Dublin yesterday.

The court heard that the trial, which is to start today, turns on a single issue that will be determined by expert psychiatric evidence.

Brendan Grehan SC, for the Director of Public Prosecutions, said the case is expected to take between one to 1½ days.

Ms Gibbs is represented by Patrick Gageby SC.
