PARIS - Thousands of striking junior hospital doctors from across France waved banners, danced and chanted at a Paris, rally yesterday in protest at government plans to freeze health spending. Their 16 day old strike has grown into a serious challenge to efforts by the conservative Prime Minister, Mr Alain Juppe, to reduce France's welfare deficit as part of a drive to qualify for a single European currency in 1999.
